( another day, another trip to the library. tatara has buried himself in books, and his newest interest is edible plants that grow in the forest and the general area around union. not everything's cultivated, after all!

that, and he can already tell the money they have left this month isn't going to last them much longer. ah, well. it's gonna work out somehow! he just has to improvise.

so yes. reading and taking notes and making small doodles at the same time, because he can't take the books with him when he goes into the forest later. )

[ now, Union's a pretty big city, but even so, Bilbo likes to become familiar with the library's regulars. who comes in when, who likes what books, who uses the library for what, and so on. it makes the whole task of helping people with what they're looking for immeasurably easier, not to mention more pleasant for both parties.

this particular boy has definitely become a regular. Bilbo can't help but approve of seeing someone so young show such an interest in books and learning, and so he likes to check in on him at least once every visit, just to see how the lad's getting along. today's no exception; on his way back from reshelving some books, Bilbo stops by the boy's desk, giving the sizeable stack he has in front of him a quick once-over, and clears his throat politely. ]

Good afternoon. You're starting to become one of our regulars, you know. Have you found everything you're looking for today?

Oh, hello Mister Baggins!

( tatara looks up from the book he's currently taking notes from with a bright, cheerful smile. ... he belatedly remembers to tone down the volume, looking apologetic. )

I mean, hello.

( it would be proper manners, he's told, to get up when greeting an adult, but he's got another two books on his lap as well as the piece of paper he's writing on, so that just isn't happening this time. he gives an enthusiastic nod instead. )

Yes, I think so. I'm trying to learn about the edible plants that might grow outside of the city.
