[ He crouches down in front of her, bringing them to about eyelevel. ]
You can't. You're not a witch anymore, Davina.
[ The statement is plain, calm, when he's flippant and impatient with most anything else. This isn't a pain anyone can heal. Not now, or ever. She's chosen to live with it, all the same. Hasn't she? If he could undo it... well, if he could undo it, they wouldn't be here in the first place. ]
[ She hates it. Growing up as a witch in a coven - magic came naturally. Of course she knew logically she wouldn't be able to feel any of it any more but that didn't soften the blow any.
And while his words are probably meant to inspire some sort of calm or... something on her part - they only cause her to hug her knees tighter to her chest to compact even smaller into herself. She'd made up her mind on what she wanted to do - she was sure of the decision, but it didn't change how scary it was.
Blue eyes watch him with a certain kind of sadness that he can probably recall all too well. She was still completely useless to him now, she couldn't control the witches for him.]
Thank you.
[ It's an odd couple words coming from someone dealing with such pain - but it isn't about any of it, not really. It's about the fact that he returned to her. ]
[ It's not for comfort. Rather, it's a fact. Something he's had to face, something she can't run from, and it's going to hurt her, he knows it is, but that won't make it less true. Not now, or at any other point in her life - however long that may end up being.
He tilts his head at her answer. Not one he expected. He hadn't even expected her to so much as look back at him, really, but Davina Claire had been full of surprises from day one.
Though yes - it's very naive. He doesn't bother to keep the smirk off his face. ]
Never mind that most everyone would tell you that's not wise.
[ Kol's smirk seems to cause her to curl tighter into herself for some reason, but it's clearly not out of intimidation or fear. She hasn't feared anyone since the day she met him - he mad her feel powerful just by his existence. Even if right now she was slipping on emotions she could barely contain. ]
Everyone else is stupid.
[ And it sounds like she means that, at least with regards to this. Sure they have had their disagreements, but she's been the constant in her life that she can actually believe in and not get hurt by. Her own family had tried to kill her but the man with the reputation of being a monster never once tried to.
A weak smile is offered to him but it doesn't touch her eyes - not when she feels like a truck hit her. ]
[ And his smirk becomes a smile, if a sad one. It's impossible to deny the soft spot he has for this girl, even though she believes him to a foolish extent. Can't quite help thinking what his siblings would say if they saw them now, but it won't do to dwell on that. More than likely they'd find a way to ruin it, like they have everything else so far, both for him and for each other. He won't talk her out of the faith she has in him. Now more than ever, he feels a kind of kinship in recognizing her suffering, something other than respect and envy of her powers. ]
There's no way for me to make this easier.
[ They've both said sorry, and he's not about to repeat himself, but there's still compassion in his tone. ]
[ Everyone tried to warn her off trusting the monster of New Orleans, he slaughtered anyone who got in his way - looking for an ounce of fun she assumed. And now? That she could feel what he was: the utter lack of a connection to the earth, everything felt static. She couldn't blame him. ]
Let's just get it over with.
[ The words are brave but the unsure tone isn't. No, she knows she wants to do this. She has to. All of them, everyone who has wronger her - they were going to suffer. Not only had she been wronged but it was also an attrmpt to foil Kol's grip on New Orleans and that in itself offended her.
At least it would make everything stop hurting. Unconsciously she slides her tongue over her aching teeth - wisdom teeth had nothing on this. ]
Just... [ What were the words she was looking for... ] don't let me become a monster. [ That's an interesting request to someone that everyone else sees as a monster. Of course Davina doesn't; he's Kol, the man who saved her, the man who taught her, the man that was trying to offer whatever warped version of comfort to her right now. ]
[ What she gets out of this request is raised eyebrows, a curious look on his face. ]
Shouldn't that be your choice?
[ Besides, how would he define monster? How does she define monster, for that matter, if it isn't what she's becoming? If it isn't someone who declares I want them to suffer? He isn't going to stand in the way of revenge, of the bloodshed it will inevitably entail because they have little other kinds of terror at their disposal now. If anything, he'll encourage it. She should know, but doesn't, and he won't explain, only giving the one hint at potential consequences. ]
[ She wants to curl back into herself, hide from him, hide from everything. But she doesn't want to die. ]
I guess.
[ The words are just barely above a whisper, and while she knows he can easily hear everything, including her, she still tries to force herself to be louder than the whisper she wanted to fall to. It felt like a roller coaster - she couldn't control what she was feeling. Sickening was a good word for it.
She fixes him with the best brave face she can manage, because at the moment, she was not feeling brave. Or all that well, actually. Davina also couldn't help but have the sinking feeling Kol would rather be anywhere else than there which only proved to make her feel even more sick. ]
Please. [ He holds her hand a little longer than needed. Steady. Tries to read in her eyes how ready she really is, but... well, only trying is actually going to show that. ]
I do have all the New Orleans vampires answering to me, it's got to have some advantages.
[ You know, like acquiring food for fledgelings. Which he's nodding over to. Baby steps, and he'll walk her there this time if he has to. ]
[ If she notices the lingering touch, she doesn't say or do anything that makes it seem like it's bothered her, it's actually when his hand slips out of her grip that she seems to be bothered - safety net gone. ]
They're not going to stop because - because of this are they?
[ There's worry thick laden in her voice. Part of her knows she's stalling, dragging her feet. ]
No. For now we're all a bit too united by a common enemy, and they're all too used to someone calling the shots.
[ He sounds completely certain. Perhaps he sounds more certain than he really is - it's not like it won't require work on his part, maintaining his position. But the fact of the matter remains nobody here has the means to kill him.
A beat after she falters, and he steers her then, one hand at the small of her back. Not impatient, but careful. One step at a time. ]
[ When she finds herself staring at the bag he'd brought. Almost timidly she reaches out to gather up the blood bag. Just the sight of it has her teeth hurting, and she's sure there are fangs where there hadn't been before...
She almost just wants to sink her teeth into it, not caring about the mess it would make. Instead she tugs one of the tabs off, bringing it up to her lips - and it certainly didn't taste as gross as she thought it would. And it would taste a lot better if she could bring herself to actually swallow it, but for some reason she can't no matter how hard she tries, a moment later she's choking on it, making a bloody mess as she coughs, spitting blood on her floor. ]

[ Abruptly, he rises partway, extending a hand to her. ]
You said something about getting this over with. Cowering's not quite your style, is it?
he says as she cowers in both our threads
His words are reassuring enough, so she gives him a weak smile. ]
No, it's not. [ But he should know better than anyone, what it's like to have her world flipped over and torn inside out. ]
I hope it wasn't hard to find... [ She'd feel bad if she put Kol on a wild goosechase for blood. ]

But I'm flattered. You're worried on my behalf.
